s the maroon suitcase bumped along the hall, Teddy heaved a sigh of relief. “Finally, no more flying all over
in this suitcase.” He said to Water Bottle. “Well, I don’t know about you, but I miss London.” Whined Water
Bottle. “I think it’s awesome in old Shanghai.” came the reply. As Water Bottle opened his mouth, they felt a bump
and fell to one side. When they opened their eyes, a bright ray of light shone into the suitcase, flooding it with
golden light. As Teddy peeked over the side of suitcase, everything flooded in with darkness. Teddy and Water Bottle
sat in the dark gaping. After a while, Teddy and Water Bottle heard Dad mutter, “It’s a power cut.”. “It’s when
something goes wrong at the power station and you can’t use electricity.” he explained to young Jake. “I’ll have to
sprint down to the lobby and see if they own candles.” he muttered before hurrying over to the door and dashing
out. “What shall we do?” Water Bottle whispered in a trembling voice. “I’m sure everything will turn out right in
the morning.” Teddy whispered calmly. A week passed with the only light coming from the candles. One night, a
terrible thing happened. A lightning bolt struck the building. People shrieked as they gathered their belongings to
arrive out if the building safe. It so happened, that the family owning Teddy and Water Bottle fled Shanghai that
very night, but in their rush they didn’t notice the brown lump huddled in a corner alongside a
shiny object. At
dawn, Teddy woke to the ear piercing wail of Water Bottle. “What’s the matter Water Bottle?” Teddy shouted.
“OUR MASTER HAS FLED AND FORGOTTEN US!” Water Bottle wailed. “Well, I have a plan so stop
wailing or my ears will fall off ” Teddy snapped. After a short while, Water Bottle asked, “What’s your plan?”. Teddy
replied, “Before the plan begins, we must have a rope. Where can we find a rope?”. “Well, we can strip up a sheet.”
Water Bottle suggested. Rapidly, they striped up a sheet and tied the pieces together. “Next we toss one end into
the bin.” Teddy said coolly. “What!!Are you bonkers!?” Water Bottle hurriedly shut his mouth as he caught
Teddy’s eye. “Right, I’ll go first.” Teddy said briefly before hauling himself up the rope and hauling himself into
the bin. “Hurry up.” Teddy’s voice called down. Water Bottle hesitated a second before climbing after Teddy. A
while later, later, the door opened to reveal the bin man. He tipped the garbage into his junk sac, hopped into the
lift and pushed the “G” button. As the lift doors opened, Teddy and Water Bottle rolled out of the sac and climbed
onto a trolley pilled with luggage. As the trolley started to move, Teddy and Water Bottle dozed off. When Teddy
and Water bottle woke, they lay on their front porch. They sighed and relaxed.
