Suddenly something shiny caught my eyes … it was the pearl necklace ! As I was about to take it , a guard spotted me and shouted something that I didn ’ t understand , but I bet it wasn ’ t something good ! I immediately took the necklace and ran as fast as I could . I ran to the backdoor stairs and ran up to the rooftop . Wow ! How beautiful the view was on top of the French club ! I could see the Huangpu River , though far away . Looked down from my feet , there were the crowded streets with old-fashioned rickshaws running on them . If I wasn ’ t being chased by a guard now I would love to enjoy the view for a while .
“ Hey , stop !” the Indian guard yelled behind me . “ Run !” I told myself , panting and almost lost my breath !
Suddenly I found a little latch ! I opened the gate and found a staircase that led to the kitchen of the French club . Thanked goodness the guard wasn ’ t chasing me anymore . Maybe the entrance of the latch was too small for him to go through . What a horrifying experience ! The lady was very pleased to see me again . She was so grateful with me that she took me out of the French Club for wonderful Shanghai food , Shanghai dumplings , noodles , xiao lung bao and pancakes . They tasted a bit different from the modern ones but were exceptionally delicious !
“ So … the earrings ?” I reminded the charming lady . “ Come to my house and I will show you my collections !”
“ You have a fantastically big house !” After a five minutes ’ walk and we were in her house . I was amazed by how big it was .
“ Well , in China , I am relatively very rich ,” she said frankly . The lady let me pick one pair of the pearl earrings by myself . They glittered in my eyes !
“ You got a television as well ?” I saw an old style television set with the antenna , and what popped up in my mind was , I got to return to see my mom !
I immediately took the pearl earrings and wanted to say goodbye . Suddenly everything in front of me turned misty and a great force sucked me into the television !
“ Oh … what … help !” Not until I opened my eyes , I heard my mom calling me . “ Oh … hi , mom …” “ I ’ ve been asking you whether you want to have a walk near the Huangpu River …” “ I ’ m sorry I was away for so long !” “ What do you mean ? It took me just five minutes to tidy up the bedroom !” said my mom . I was very confused , with the pair of earrings still in my hand . But I ’ m glad that I ’ m back !
