That night, I was very worried about Haruto. I couldn’t sleep. I went to his house very early in the morning and told Haruto to be very careful. “Someone may try to hurt you. Do not go out alone and always bring a dagger with you.” But I never told him the plan of Scar. My worst nightmare came true one day. One night, Haruto’s parents came to my house. They said that Haruto had left the house in the afternoon and hadn’t been seen by anyone then. I knew that something was wrong. Then, a policeman came. He said that Haruto was seriously hurt and was now in a hospital. Haruto suffered a blow on the back of the head. Luckily, he had a dagger with him and was able to fend for himself. “Thank you, Nan,” Haruto whispered to me, “If it wasn’t for your warning, I would never have carried a dagger with me all the time.” “Oh, it’s you again, Nan. You have saved our son twice. I don’t know how to thank you!” Haruto’s mother cried. Haruto’s parents decided to go back to Japan. They thought that China was no longer safe. “Nan, you are like the second son to me. Would you like to come with us to live in Japan?” Haruto’s father asked me. I didn’t know what to do. I might have a better future if I went to Japan with Haruto but I didn’t want to leave my family behind. I asked my mother about it and she said, “Go to Japan, Nan. You will have a better future. You don’t have to worry about us. Remember us and live well!” Mother cried. The next month, I boarded a ship with Haruto and his family. We were going to Japan. I waved goodbye to my parents and my brothers and sisters. My eyes were filled with tears as I sailed into the night.
