XIAO YU Xiao yu was nervous but he guided his cricket up and down, up and down. With a final cricket and human bow, he was finally finished. Xiao yu looked at the sky as he chewed his pork dumpling. He felt so relaxed… Just then Xiao yu realized that the sky was fading from a light blue to a pink and orange mix. Xiao yu stood right up. He was going to have to go now, or he would be stuck on the outside of the wall forever! He ran to the wall without so much as a glance back at his friend. He didn’t see Lili’s sad face. LILI Lili frowned as Xiao yu ran away, she knew she would never see him again. With a dreary face, Lili walked home. XIAO YU Xiao yu was finally on the other side of the wall. “Ding, dong, ding!” the bell rang, announcing the closing of the gates. Xiao yu (who was filled with pride that he’d made it in time) ambled along home. He stopped in his tracks, and glanced back at the city gates. Realizing something, he ran home, put on his nicest clothes and set off. LILI Lili was like a lifeless rock as she sat on her favorite chair. Her mother was just coming in with hot soup, but Lili ran to her room. XIAO YU Xiao yu went to see the emperor. Bravely he asked, “ please open the gates!” “ I said no!” the emperor proclaimed. “But I…I need to see my friend!” Xiao yu stammered, trying his best to sound convincing. The emperor finally agreed. LILI Lili’s head was buried in her hay pillow. She wanted to play and have fun with Xiao yu. “ Lili, you might want to see this!” her mother called. With a roll of her eyes, Lili heaved herself up to the window. She gasped. Without a word, Lili put on her coat and ran outside, her face aglow. LILI AND XIAO YU Xiao yu ran to meet Lili, and Lili ran to meet him. They both pulled out toys and Lili said: “ Let’s go to the YuYuan gardens”.
