He was 14 years old and his parents worked in a little shop. The family was very poor. One day The Huang Pu river started rising and they only had four weeks left before the Huang Pu River would flood the city. Everyone had different ideas about how to deal with the problem. Some suggested leaving the Old City. Others suggested letting themselves die. But Xing had a better idea: to build a wall to protect the Old City. Some people left the city and some said that that Xing was right. They built a wall to protect the city. They needed to work very fast! When Xing’s mom asked him to go out of the village to help his dad who was working to build the wall, he asked his mom if he could go buy some bread because he was hungry. Because his dad was working hard, a rich man gave him some money. The more he worked the more money he got. Finally, they had enough to buy a bigger house. It was one of the biggest houses in the old city. But Xing said that it was a bad idea to move to the big house because if the Huang Pu river overflowed the house and the village would be gone. Luckily, three weeks later, the Huang Pu River stopped rising. THEY WERE SAVED! And the city had a new protective wall. THE END
