“You can read just a little bit? Ha! That doesn’t count as a talent at all! I have to go and finish up my beef stew. Oh
my, I can’t believe you wasted my precious time! What a shame!”
And with that, she slammed the door shut.
With my eyes overflowed with tears, I sat on the cold stone steps and started to sob; there was nothing else left to
do. Big, fat tears rolled down my cheek, before landing onto the ground with a mighty splash. All I wanted was to
reunite with mother. I also knew that it was impossible. Mum must also be searching for me too, I couldn’t
believe it was the first day here, and I had already lost my only companion. All of a sudden, the sky began to
darken and ominous grey clouds loomed over me. It started to rain and I got soaked to the skin, but I didn’t even
care. A few people rushed past me carrying their umbrellas and their necks wrapped tightly with scarves. They all
failed to notice a girl, a girl who lost her mother.
