Breaking the Rules—Art of Compassion and Connection

For the last two years, a new way of making art has evolved from a series of gatherings where artists would draw and sketch each other. The results were posted on social media and met with great enthusiasm. The production of the drawings did not focus on celebrity. It blurred the notion of artist as cult figure. Portraiture, a traditional subject, became the main focus.

Personally, this collective activity helped me grow as an artist. I could see the growth in other folks' work as well. For the Homosurrealism London exhibition, three artists, Scooter LaForge, Jorge Clar and Joel Handorff, collaborated in the creation of the Homosurrealism Magazine cover. —Joel Handorff
