Chamber President and CEO Arthur Hulbert also makes frequent trips to Little Rock to meet with the Third Congressional Caucus .
“ The purpose of the Third Congressional Caucus meeting of state legislators is to grow stronger relationships between state legislators and to help the legislators meet in person and hear from key businesses and entities across the Third Congressional District who have a regional , state , and in many cases , a global impact ,” Hulbert said .
The Third Congressional Caucus extends from the Missouri state line to south of Fort Smith and from the Oklahoma state line to Harrison , Hulbert said .
“ The Siloam Springs community is fortunate to have quality local leaders leading , facilitating and participating in the Third Congressional Caucus meeting of state legislators such as Senator Tyler Dees , Representative Delia Haak and Representative Robin Lundstrum ,” Hulbert said . “ They provide Siloam Springs and western Benton County a strong voice and representation across the state of Arkansas .”
Looking towards the future , the chamber will host the annual Back to School Breakfast
on Aug . 8 , and partner with the city and Main Street Siloam Springs for the final Fourth Friday of the year Aug . 24 , Taylor said .
The Chamber Challenge Golf Tournament will return Sept . 13 , Taylor said . After two years in Cave Springs , the Chamber Challenge will be held at the Siloam Springs Golf Course , Taylor said .
On Oct . 12 , the chamber will participate in Love Siloam with the city of Siloam Springs , Taylor said . Love Siloam is a community driven initiative in dedicated to growing the community through service , sharing food and providing entertaining experiences , according to lovesiloam . com .
The Elevate Her Business Women ’ s Conference will return in November and the Pool of Siloam will be held in December , Taylor said . Dates for those events are still being determined , Taylor said .
On the first Friday of the month , the chamber holds First Friday Coffee , Taylor said . First Friday Coffee is a networking event from the Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce for business owners to share successes . First Friday Coffee is held at a different location each month .
The only exception is the July First Friday Coffee that will be held July 12 instead of July 5 because of the Independence Day holiday , Taylor said .
The chamber also will hold candidate forums later in the year , Taylor said . Dates and times are still being determined , Taylor said .
John Brown University
John Brown University had an enrollment of 2,253 students for the 2023-24 school year , said Julie Gumm , chief marketing and communications officer .
The university had a record-breaking freshman class of 384 students for the 2023-24 school year , Gumm said .
The previous record for the largest freshman class was 361 students in 2007 , according to a university staff report .
JBU was ranked as the No . 1 university in Arkansas by the Wall Street Journal , and U . S . News Ranked JBU as the top regional university in Arkansas , Gumm said .
JBU held its 81st Candlelight Service in
December . The service is a choral concert by JBU ’ s Cathedral Choir at the Cathedral of the Ozarks .
The event featured new choral director Dr . Seung-Won Cho , said Mary Patterson , one of the event coordinators .
Cho came to JBU from Lubbock , Texas , where he directed music at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock , Patterson said . Cho received his bachelor of music degree in conducting and organ from Yonsei University in Seoul , South Korea , according to his biography .
The Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation awarded JBU a $ 6.5 million grant to grow its cybersecurity program , according to a January university news release .
JBU ’ s counseling program received accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs , Gumm said .
“ We are very proud of achieving CACREP accreditation as it affirms the quality of our counseling program and its faculty , staff , students and graduates ,” said Chris Hull , department chair of graduate counseling , in a March news release . “ This accreditation provides our graduates with a smoother and simpler pathway to achieving professional counseling licensure in most states across America .”
After 27 seasons , JBU women ’ s basketball Coach Jeff Soderquist announced his retirement in March on the heels of a record-shattering season that saw the Golden Eagles capture a pair of Sooner Athletic titles and qualify for the NAIA National Championships .
Soderquist amassed a program-record 424 wins , leading the Golden Eagles to seven NAIA National Championships appearances , a national semifinal finish , seven 20-win seasons and in his swan song , Sooner Athletic regular season and tournament crowns for the first time in program history .
In April , JBU ’ s League of Legends esports team won its first National Esports Collegiate Conference championship by winning the Emergents – East division , Gumm said .
