Hometown Heroes Firefighters/Health 2018 | Page 3
Rutland County’s
Hometown Heroes
Welcome to the second Hometown Heroes special section,
a series we started to recognize local professionals and
volunteers who do extraordinary things every day in our
communities.
This edition, we focus on several areas. We offer a profile of
a local fire department — the volunteers and firefighters of
the West Rutland Fire Department — who share their stories
of fighting fires, responding to accidents, and the family
aspect of their chosen vocation.
We also feature a profile of two school nurses, who provide
medical care and a whole lot more at a local school. School
nurses are in the center of things, making a difference in
what might seem a minor role.
In addition, find information about your local rescue squads
and ambulance services. There is a shortage of emergency
medical service personnel, and these services are always
looking for volunteers and people who want to train to make
a difference in an emergency.
