CENTRAL VERMONT HOMETOWN HEROES Welcome to our first Hometown Heroes special section, featuring Fire Departments from around the region. This section will be followed later in the year by sections featuring rescue squads, police and other first responders. Most fire departments in our area are made up of volunteers —men and women who take time out of their lives to meet, train and most of all respond when the call goes out over the radio. Many times, their response is to a minor incident. Yet there are also many times they respond to fires or accidents that threaten the home, property or lives of people who may be neighbors or may be perfect strangers. Whether professional, part-time, or strictly volunteer, these men and women represent the best in our communities, serving a purpose and a role that reaches all of us, no matter who we are. We have to acknowledge that this first edition is incomplete – there are many departments listed here that are not fully featured, due to time and space constraints. We will work to add them in future editions of this series. Part of our goal in this publication is to publicize the critical fundraising efforts and volunteer recruiting efforts of these small local departments. You will find many of these events listed—but if you don’t, please reach out to your local department and find a way to help out—they would do it for you. - Shawn Stabell PROVIDED PHOTOS DEPARTMENT INDEX WATERBURY............................................................... 2 General Manager Shawn Stabell Circulation Manager Melody Hudson Creative Services Manager Keri Franzoni Advertising Warren Lanigan, Kristi Wolfrom, Sara Akers Design Kristen Boudreau, Fran Grabowski, Jim Haley Photography Jeb Wallace-Brodeur, Stefan Hard (cover photo) MONTPELIER.............................................................. 4 WOODBURY ............................................................. 5 EAST MONTPELIER ..................................................... 6 MARSHFIELD .............................................................. 7 CABOT...................................................................... 8 ROXBURY .................................................................. 9 BARRE CITY..............................................................10 PLAINFIELD ..............................................................11 MORETOWN...........................................................11 BARRE TOWN..........................................................12 BERLIN ....................................................................13 Times Argus | 47 N.
