when she doesn’t accomplish everything in a
day. Does she tack them onto the next day?
Write them off? Basically her advice is that as
long as it’s not a topic that you need to build on,
some activities you just have to let go of.
I found this very freeing. I do everything I can
to accomplish what we have planned for the

Get a Jump Start or Get Ahead!
If you can…
I knew a few weeks before our intended start
date for school that a lot of changes were
coming. So we started school early and began
slowly introducing a couple of subjects and
getting used to our new school schedule. I plan
to utilize a few Saturdays here and there to
get ahead as well. I would rather finish school
ahead of schedule than drag it into Summer.
Also, my daughter is excited about Math this
year. She even asks to do another lesson
some days! So sometimes we do an additional
lesson if there is interest.

Plan Alternative Activities
If I have a day where I will be doing a minimal
schedule, rather than letting things spiral out
of control without any sort of plan I have put
together a list of some activities that don’t
require much supervision that will keep the kids
busy. I have nothing against free play. But I
think everyone ends up in a better mood if we
have some projects to work on and it helps us
maintain our routine a little better. And it helps
us minimize how much television they watch.
I have some inexpensive craft kits from the
local craft store, some puzzle pages and activity
