Travel back in time as you step through the
four-foot wide, Dutch doors into just over
9,000 square feet of unmatched comfort and
true craftsmanship. Extensive renovations
expertly incorporate modern amenities
with historical detailing throughout this
lavish work of art. Magnificently conceived
by railroad man Samuel F. Houston and
friend/architect Joseph M. Huston in 1898,
Clapboard Island estate has delighted
generations of families throughout the past
century.
Samuel Houston brought oxen over on barges
and hired 100 local artisans to complete the
island home in just 100 days. The original pine
floors, specially transported from Oregon,
have been restored to their natural luster and
extend throughout the home. Through the
main entrance you will find exposed post and
beam ceilings that travel over the grand sitting
room, adorned with period style furniture
and an artisanal stone fireplace.
