Why did you become a home stager? I recently ran into one of my design teachers from the University of Calgary. She had viewed a 1.7 million dollar home and had been so impressed with the staging that she had asked the homeowner for the stager’s card. The homeowner gave her my card. That was the ultimate compliment! I have a background in design and I love the fast-paced real estate industry, so staging is the perfect fit. It feels great to see how much impact I can make to a home’s design within a short period of time. What do you wish all homeowners knew about staging? Over 90% of buyers preview properties online, so your home has to stand out and be memorable. Homeowners need to remember that bad real estate pictures are like bad resumes; potential buyers won’t take a second look. Taking time to declutter, clean and stage before a photo shoot is crucial. Eye-catching marketing materials are also important! Success comes in many forms in the staging industry, so it’s hard to pick just one. I recently staged a condo that had been on the market for six months. After staging, it sold at asking price in just one day. I also worked with a couple who had been told their house could list for $300,000. Based on my recommendations, with less than $20,000 invested in staging and upgrades, they listed their home for $368,000. They sold their home in one weekend for $42,000 over asking price! What is your favourite part of the staging process? What is your favourite part of the staging process? I love the challenge of a “partial stage” where we bring in a few pieces and blend it with the existing décor. When improving a room’s layout, introducing a few colours and updating accessories it can really transform a home! Showcasing a property! Adding the finishing touches with colour in artwork and accessories is where we create a statement so buyers fall in love with the space. What would you say has been your most successful project?
