Along their narrow path, which led through the woods, they came across a tree which had fallen over the path. This was a large tree. The father turned to his son and instructed, “Son, I need you to move this tree, so that we can get to town. You know how important this trip is.” So, the son looked at this large tree. He pushed with all of his might, but the tree would not budge. The boy looked at his father and said, “Dad I can’t move this tree. It’s too big.” The dad sighed and replied, “Son, feel free to use whatever resource possible, but I need you to move this tree.” The boy pushed again, and the tree didn’t move. The boy tried pushing with his back. Nothing. The boy even tried using a large branch like a lever to prop the tree. Nothing. Having exhausted all of his resources, he looked at his dad and asked, “Dad? Will you help me move this tree?” In life, we encounter struggles that just seem impassable. Just remember that the Lord would never allow us to approach a turmoil that we could not overcome. With the Gospel of Jesus Christ comes a vast array of resources at our disposal; we have church leaders and neighbors who are willing to help at the drop of a hat. Christ Himself has given His own solemn vow, “I the Lord and bound when you do what I say…” (D&C 82:10). Christ stands at the door with arms wide open, waiting to help us. And sometimes he works his miracles through his servants. “Therefore, be ye as wise as serpents, and I will order ALL things, for your good, as fast as ye are able to receive them.” (D&C 111:11) It is my sincerest hope and prayer that you will continue to follow that light that has brought to you the water of baptism, and become one with Christ. He will bless you beyond measure. -James Smith Home Teaching “Home teaching is not just another program. It is the priesthood way of watching over the Saints and accomplishing the mission of the Church. Home teaching is not just an assignment. It is a sacred calling,” said President Ezra Taft Benson. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we don’t just “join a religion.” We are children of our Heavenly Father, who loves us, and we love Him. Joining the Church means that we will stand as witnesses of Christ at all times, in all things, and in all places, by making and keeping sacred covenants. We have faith, have hope, live like his Son, and help others on their way. Home Teaching is the opportunity to help others on their way. If you haven’t met your Home Teacher yet, call the Bishop or the Elders Quorum Presidency to assign you some. We all need a little help. You have it. That’s what it’s for. -President Choate
