Delay Events Across Country, Including Globe Life Field Opening
Due to concerns about the novel coronavirus, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott
declared a state of disaster for all counties in Texas in mid-March.
To help protect public health and prevent the spread of COVID-19, events
throughout Tarrant County were temporarily postponed. This included
several planned events at the new Globe Life Field, such as public tours,
the inaugural concert, a ribbon-cutting celebration and the start of Major
League Baseball’s regular season.
Additionally, Major League Baseball announced changes that affect the
Rangers’ schedule, including its planned home opener on March 31. MLB delayed the start of the 2020
regular season by at least two weeks in the interests of the safety and well-being of players and fans.
Updated game schedules will be announced as soon as possible, MLB said.
“With the health and safety of our fans, players, and employees being top priority, the Texas Rangers
unconditionally support Major League Baseball’s decision to suspend Spring Training games and delay
the start of the 2020 regular season. We thank our fans for their understanding and patience during
these unprecedented times,” the Rangers said in a statement.
