Stoops to Lead Arlington's XFL Franchise
Bob Stoops, the winningest
head coach in University of
Oklahoma history, has been
named head coach and general
manager of the XFL team that
will play in Arlington.
The announcement was made in February 2019 at
Globe Life Park, where the new XFL team will play
home games. The XFL will reimagine football for
the 21st century when it kicks off the weekend of
February 8-9, 2020. The new league is committed
to delivering a fan-centric, innovative experience,
including fast-paced games and a family-friendly
environment, complemented by cross-platform
viewing options and real-time fan engagement.
“We are so proud that the XFL has chosen to start
their league in February 2020 right here at Globe
Life Park. Our fan base here in North Texas can’t
wait,” said Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams. “It has been
well-recognized how many fans we have and how
hungry we are for more football.”
Stoops, who retired as Oklahoma’s head coach in
2017, is tasked with building out his XFL coaching
staff ahead of the team’s first-ever minicamps and
the 2019 XFL Draft in the summer and fall of 2019.
