This 6,000-square-foot single family home sits on the bluffs overlooking Marina del Rey. It has spectacular views of the Marina, Malibu and the Santa Monica Bay. The project is a remodel of the existing house, which was plagued by low windows, boxy rooms and awkward circulation. It also had a very dated façade and was suffering from a lack of maintenance. We expanded the decks, added a sunny, south-facing courtyard, raised the windows and opened the kitchen to the main circulation corridor. Clerestory windows now allow sunlight to spill into the family spaces throughout the day. Wood floors, ceilings and cabinets are anchored by new, natural stone-clad structural elements. The combination of new, natural materials, increased sunlight and opened-up views transforms the main living spaces into inviting, comfortable spaces for the young family.
