This particular project was a complete backyard makeover with one main goal in mind: to join the lower level backyard with the upper level interior living area. Our clients, Jeff and Peir Serota, asked us to include multiple, functional outdoor spaces in their new yard that would follow the same design style as their Cape Cod home. In the end, we successfully created a large outdoor kitchen, a flagstone patio with entry steps, a 10-person IPE dining deck area, a large custom pergola, an outdoor bar/TV area, an outdoor fireplace, a lounge area with a fire pit, a custom water feature and a sunken, pre-fab Jacuzzi area. The Serotas now have six new, functional exterior spaces for their friends and family to enjoy—all situated in close proximity to the main living area of their house.

JDS Outdoor Designs is an exterior design and construction c ompany based in the South Bay for the past nine years. We offer a full range of outdoor design and build services. These services range from complete hardscape makeovers to simple plant and irrigation installations, to rooftop deck and balcony transformations. We specialize in designing and building outdoor escapes that connect the inside of our clients’ homes to the outside. Small or large, we listen closely to our clients’ functional needs, and we implement their aesthetic taste and style into the overall project.

He comes from a long line of amazing artists and designers and earned a degree in illustration and graphic design from OTIS College of Art and Design. He also studied landscape architecture through UCLA Extension. Over the last decade, Jeff’s true passion for the world of landscape design and construction has emerged. In 2010, Jeff met his wife, Ana Stimpfig, who also comes from an impressive design background. A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Ana graduated with a degree in architecture and worked for top architecture firms in Rio. Now living in Hermosa Beach, Ana and Jeff have joined forces and found their true place in the world of design and architecture.
WHAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE SERVICE YOU OFFER TO CLIENTS?
It’s important to know that we are a build company, but first and foremost we’re an outdoor design firm. Our biggest asset is our ability to visualize exterior spaces, create them in digital format and build them into actual living spaces. We present our design solutions to our clients ahead of time, so there are no surprises—from freehand design sketches to 3D renderings, CAD drawings and Photoshop transformations. From there, we execute the plan in front of us.
