THE DESIGNERS DESCRIBE YOUR FEATURED PROJECT. I am an avid equestrian and am delighted when I can design for other horse lovers. This Palos Verdes redesign and partial remodel blended a mother’s and daughter’s shared passion for horses with their relaxed lifestyle and discerning taste. The furnishings are a wonderful mix of collectibles with new and antique pieces complemented by boot- and dog-friendly fabrics and finishes. A hallway closet was transformed into a showcase for numerous horse show ribbons and trophies. { DIANE BARBER Diane Barber Designery Rolling Hills Estates 310-544-4798 [email protected] dianebarberdesigns.com facebook.com/dianebarberdesignery ality and unique lifestyle. With great attention to detail and a reputation for excellence at interfacing with architects, builders, subcontractors and suppliers, I oversee the design process from start to finish. I tip my hat to the amazing team of talented industry professionals who work alongside me to transform my creative visions into beautiful and functional designs. WHAT DIFFERENTIATES YOU FROM OTHER INTERIOR DESIGNERS? Along with providing exceptional services supported by a degree from a prestigious design school (FIDM, Los Angeles), I have architectural drafting training and understand construction at a core level. I love getting my hands dirty while blending the beauty of art and design with the nuts, bolts, dust and mortar of the building trades with all design styles. WHAT INSPIRED YOUR DESIGN CAREER? My family’s Pennsylvania construction roots. My father and grandfather were general contractors, and I started spending time in the family business as a helper when I was 12 years old. I have lived and breathed the construction trade most of my life and feel at home on any project site. My parents also encouraged my childhood fascination with the arts. TELL US ABOUT YOUR FIRM AND THE SERVICES YOU OFFER. Diane Barber Designery is a full-service design studio specializing in redesign, remodels and new construction with an environmental eye on repurposing. From initial planning through installation, clients are an integral part of the process to ensure the completed project mirrors their person- WHAT IS THE PHILOSOPHY OF YOUR COMPANY, AND HOW DOES THAT INFLUENCE THE WAY YOU PRACTICE YOUR CRAFT? “Challenge the ordinary and lead with your heart.” Every project is a fresh, new canvas for me to tell my client’s stories with. Since I approach life in general with my heart at the helm, I defy standard business practices by taking that approach with my craft. In doing so, I enjoy a spirited heart connection with my work and the people I work with. /oursouthbay oursouthbay.com 113
