Step-by-Step guide to Power Mobility and
Medicare Coverage
The decision to get a power
mobility device can be a difficult
one. There are numerous variables
that need to be taken into consideration and discussed with your physician (health care professional).
Finances can often times influence
this already difficult decision. At
CMH, we provide all of our
patients and medical professionals
with the information they need to
make an educated decision.
For Medicare to provide a patient
power mobility device, certain steps
must be taken to ensure that the
patient receives the device needed.
This step-by-step guide is provided
to educate you on the process.
1. Face-to-face visit with the patient’s
primary physician or care provider
and discuss their options.
2. Patient will meet face-to-face
with a CMH Occupational
Therapist for further assessment.
3. Patient’s physician prescribe
and send your medical records
to CMH Home Medical
Equipment or power mobility
provider
4. An assessment of the patient’s
home will be conducted to
ensure that they have adequate
maneuverability.
5. Power mobility device will be
ordered and delivered to the
patient’s residence. Once there,
a demonstration of the equipment will be provided by a
trained professional.
