New Gear 33 Analog Voltmeter Alarm Clock Y ou don’t need to know your way around an analog voltmeter to appreciate this clever alarm clock. Designed to look like the voltage-measuring contraption an electrical engineer would use the Analog Voltmeter Alarm Clock simply tries to jump-start your day. One meter displays hours, the other displays minutes, and the red toggle switch handles the alarm. Awkward Engineer’s Analog Voltmeter Alarm Clock is USB powered, has a backlight option, and even has a “twitchy needle” display mode. After a long day of playing with electrical circuits, you’ll be happy to rest your head next to this guy. Made by novelty electronics manufacturer Awkward Engineer, it looks like a vintage analog voltmeter, except it displays hours and minutes instead of volts and amps. Headed by entrepreneur Sam Feller, Awkward Engineer previously had success with its Kickstarter-funded Voltmeter Clock. Now, the company has added an alarm function, which is set using a toggle switch (with a snazzy red safety cover) on the side. The device also features a custom-designed Atmel microcontroller-based circuit board, an AM/PM indicator LED, an optional backlight on its display, and mode-select knobs on top. It’s powered by a USB cable, which can be plugged into a conventional outlet using an included “wall wart” adapter. Combining the best aspects of the worlds of woodburners and camping stoves, Frontier Plus is a portable woodburning stove that can be installed in everything from garden igloos and tiny houses to tents and sheds to give you access to efficient outdoor cooking and heating. As with any other product of this type, the biggest issue is generally the transportation part, but the Frontier Plus breaks down so all components fit inside the body which has a carrying handle. With its contained firebox, the Frontier Stove is 10 times more efficient than an open fire. This means that you need less fuel for the same heat output and cooking temperatures. It’s also good news for the environment: burning less fuel means a huge reduction in harmful emissions that can damage the ozone. The total weight of the stove and flues is an easy 10kg, and there’s even a convenient carry handle on its side so you can grab it and go!
