14 Cover Story Located beside the bathroom is the utility boot room, which also provides access to the outside gardens with the large cantilevered south balcony above. At the end of the small circulation hallway there is a hidden door which leads you into the master quarters. The layout of master quarter’s internal design is very hotel style with open shower area with a large internal screen, providing a beautiful view over the bed to the historic Drumlamph Wood. Hidden behind a frosted glazed wall is the washing closet and basin. The bedroom itself is in the most secret area of the house with a large glazed window with incredible views and with the only sound provided is that of wildlife from the woodland and flowing water of the river. The feeling and emotions of tranquillity and privacy in the lower level provides a completely different emotion to that of the upper level. The overall aesthetics and forms of the house which is sculptural like, marries beautifully into the completely rural setting and with this very modest size house of just 1,236sqft provides everything that’s required to have a prefect family home. “The house really is everything I’ve ever wanted and it is an experiment that worked far better than I thought it would. Some people think that a contemporary building is always going to be cold and this house shows how wrong that is. I can’t imagine ever wanting to move,’’ he said. Before Christmas, Patrick very kindly organised a draw in conjunction with the Simon Community in Northern Ireland where two people would spend one night in Patrick’s house on Saturday, 6th February which will include a champagne hamper on arrival and a personal meeting with Mr Bradley followed by an overnight stay for two people in Ardtara House on Sunday, 7th February in a superior room with a three course meal and breakfast before departure. “I’m offering an overnight stay in my house for one night to two people to give something back to the local community followed by an overnight stay in a hotel the following night,’’ explained Patrick. “All people have to do is donate ten pounds or more if they wish to be in with a chance of winning the prize with all money going back to the Simon Community in Northern Ireland. Up here currently 18% of the population are homeless which is hard to believe so it is nice to be doing something for these people who really need our help and support.’’ PROJECT CREDITS Architect: Patrick Bradley Architects - Patrick Bradley Structural Engineer: Joe Young Engineering Total Station Surveyor: 360 Surveys Ltd 3D Visuals: Stephen Hughes Visualisation Technical and Energy Consultant: Mark Nelson Architect Mortgage Advisor: N.I.
