If eating is a crime , then dining with Elaf Homely Meals should be prime . The food and beverage industry has taken a toll in terms of product diversification and offers products that serve long term health and also bolster consumer health in a number of ways .
2018 is where my journey began , in Mombasa as I was seated , breastfeeding my 3rd born and reflecting back on my career as a “ briefcase lady ” in Nairobi . From a pharmtech , to a researcher and now a full time mother . I felt a sudden energy thrush and inner spark that was unusual .
Flashback of the corporate world and my ability to achieve my goals made me realize that no matter the circumstance opportunity keeps knocking . My passion for food is inevitable , my cooking skills are not acquired but inborn , my recipes are heartwarming but the uniqueness lies in the combination of love and focus while cooking and preparing meals .
I started off with coconut mahamri dough where I would grind the coconut , extract the milk , combine all the ingredients and knead them with my hands . I used to knead 10kgs a day for 45minutes . The kneading of the coconut dough was not easy but one thing I can affirm is that “ A good knead is a must ” I persevered knowing that
good tidings are coming . My Husband , my mother and my sisters have helped me beyond borders . My husband is my “ co-chef and business partner ”, my mother “ The Sponsor ” and my two sisters “ Marketers ”.
At the back of my head I knew the type of people that I was targeting with my dough who were mainly nurses , doctors and working women , but to my surprise they did not compute a large number compared to housewives who wanted good quality dough ready to fry . The coconut mahamri dough gave birth to a whole range of snacks from samosas to spring rolls all the way to Swahili meals and finally dessert .
