The city ’ s Chinatown is a highlight of any visit and is the heart of the community , with old and new entwined , so of course , the food in this part of town simply can ’ t be beaten . Take a bite of history and delicious cuisine at the Maxwell Food Centre , featuring food stalls that have stood the test of time . Or get your fill at the Amoy Street Food Centre or the Chinatown Complex Food Centre .
Another must-see neighbourhood is Little India in the city centre , showcasing the vibrant culture of Singapore ’ s Indian community . The food alone is worth the trip ! Pick up a bargain at the local shops , explore the laneways , and stop by the area ’ s temples ( one to note is the Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple , home to a 15-metre-high Buddha statue that is said to weigh 300 tonnes ). Then sit down to a traditional Thali or meal at any of the area ’ s excellent restaurants , like Banana Leaf Apolo , where they serve food on fresh and clean banana leaves in the traditional style of India .
Then there ’ s Lau Pa Sat , a hawker centre located in Singapore ’ s Central Business District . It ’ s always busy with the crowds of office workers at lunchtime , but at night is when it really comes alive , as the street food destination known as Satay Street is set up at the outdoor area of the food market , adding more bustle to the place and serving up ( you guessed it !) some of the city ’ s best satay dishes , plus much more . holidaysforcouples . travel 79
