DAY 1 -2 EXPLORING HOBART
We began our Tassie adventure in the state capital , a city steeped in rich history and buzzing with a creative vibe . After hiring our car at the airport , we headed straight to Battery Point to check into our accommodation at the beautiful historic property , Grande Vue Hotel — an elegant mansion that has been meticulously restored to its former glory . Grande Vue boasts an exceptional location with aweinspiring vistas of the River Derwent . It ’ s hard to pull ourselves away from the comfort of our plush suite , but the local neighborhood beckons us to explore . Battery Point is a charming historic suburb known for its picturesque colonial architecture and narrow , winding streets that feel like stepping back in time , with quaint cottages , lovely gardens , delightful cafes , boutique shops , and the iconic Arthur Circus , making this area a mustvisit for a taste of Hobart ’ s rich heritage and relaxed atmosphere . Descend the historic Kelly ’ s Steps , built by whaler James Kelly in 1840 , and you ’ ll find yourself in the heart of Hobart ’ s lifestyle scene at Salamanca Place , where old sandstone warehouses have been turned into galleries , bars , and restaurants . If it ’ s Saturday morning , a visit to the famous Salamanca Market is a must ! An afternoon at Cascade Brewery is time well spent . Nestled in the foothills of South Hobart beneath the impressive Mt . Wellington , Australia ’ s oldest operating brewery has been a source of Tasmanian pride since 1824 . Tasting the freshly brewed beer right at its source is a highlight , so we grab a table in the garden to soak up the sunshine and order a tasting paddle at the Cascade Brewery Bar .
