from the editor-in-chief ...
It ’ s hard to believe that 26 years ago , we published our very first issue of this romantic travel magazine , originally called Holidays & Honeymoons .
So much has changed in the world … and the world of travel . Reading an early issue over the weekend , I couldn ’ t help but smile nostalgically at an article exploring our impressions of The Maldives ... as learned from postcards . I can ’ t remember the last time I received ( or sent !) a postcard . Can you ? My children ( the eldest of whom is no baby at 21 ) don ’ t believe me when I tell them we could smoke on planes . Or that we booked flights through a travel agent because people didn ’ t use ‘ The Internet ’.
Of course , the past quarter of a century has seen countless other developments . One of the most significant for us was taking what is now Holidays for Couples entirely digital ( thanks , Covid !). But what hasn ’ t changed is our mission to seek out , experience and inspire you with the very best destinations for two . And because one person ’ s ‘ best ’ may not make the shortlist for another , we try and curate a good mix of articles to span myriad travel styles .
Culture-vultures will love the stories on Angkor Wat and India ’ s Jaipur from our resident adventurer , Natalie Bannister . Sun-seekers can never go wrong with Hawai ’ i , and I was lucky enough to recently travel to both Maui and the stunning island of Kaua ’ i . Thailand is always a massive audience favourite , and this issue we show you a different side to Bangkok and highlight a few gorgeous islands to combine with this dynamic city . Then there ’ s Bali : a honeymooner ’ s dream destination with its mix of culture and food , sun and surf , spas and romantic accommodation — the focus of our 14-day Bali honeymoon itinerary .
