IN salzburger land

Through SalzburgerLand on foot or by bike, how active vacations are meant to be.

FROM ALPINE SUMMER to Harvest Festival

Offering nature experiences, preserving traditional values, sustainability and eco-friendliness also for holidaymakers, these are the“ ingredients” for successful vacation days. Hikers, cyclists, mountain bikers, kayakers, gold-panners and all kinds of explorers, flower lovers and mineral experts – all of them want intact nature for their recreational activities. Salzburg province shares part of Austria’ s first national park, Hohe Tauern National Park founded in 1981. At 1,836 km _, it is the largest sanctuary in the Alps and also the biggest national park in Central Europe. The state holds its protective hand over it, though in many valleys, on the meadows and in forests, on mountainsides and along riverbeds, it is the villages or private property owners who protect and nurture this natural and cultural landscape. In its entirety, Salzburger- Land is a single, beautiful setting just waiting to be appreciated, with countless front-row seats that are able to fascinate from sunrise to sunset.“ Salzburg Alpine Summer”, just like“ Harvest Festival” which follows, is dedicated to the thought of combining the region’ s approach to life in general – with its cuisine, agriculture, traditions – with folk heritage and with culture. A yearning for beauty and peace are as much a part of this as the urge for adventure and challenges. Whether you want to climb to the top of two- or three-thousand-meter peaks, enter one of the thunderous gorges or follow one of the many hiking and cycling paths, pausing to enjoy the local products is always part of any holiday in SalzburgerLand. This might be, for example, at one of the businesses on the Via Culinaria, at a mountain hut, or from late summer at one of the many celebrations part of Harvest Festival.“ Healthy Alpine Summers” is the motto that casts a spotlight on herbs and medicinal plants, traditional health treatments and sporting activities at healthful alpine elevations. In the Hochkönig region there are new herb huts, in Lammertal artistically crafted wooden benches serve as front-row seats for a wellearned rest. In Altenmarkt and Zauchensee, there is a“ Country Lore” theme path, as well as a“ Moon Path” with interesting info stations. Salzburger- Land is home to 162 certified Alpine Summer huts, which represent quality and the special character of deeply rooted hill-farming traditions. The health theme also plays an important role in this year’ s“ Harvest Festival”, which takes place in 2013 for the 18th time. It begins on August 24th and lasts until October 27th. Official opening events will be held this year in Tamsweg( August 24th) and in Faistenau( August 25th). The 73 participating towns plan around 2,000 events and festivities.
SalzburgerLand- a paradise of experiences
SalzburgerLand sparks your longing for new experiences: The National Park Center in Mittersill adds in summer 2013 a 360-degree panorama cinema with a 16 meter diameter. Cutting-edge, high-resolution projection technology allows visitors to journey through the fascinating natural and high-alpine world of Hohe Tauern National Park, the perfect companion to the existing, spectacular exhibition at National Park Center Mittersill. The opening of the cinema is part of the activities to mark the anniversary“ 100 years of the national park idea in Salzburg”. Exhibits and projects inform about the history of Salzburg’ s nature sanctuary. A new attraction also awaits visitors to famous Krimml Waterfalls. At the foot of this natural wonder, at the end of June Wondrous Worlds of Water Krimml will be reopened after a comprehensive expansion phase. On some 8,200 m 2, it features an innovative, interactive center revolving around the water theme. Heart of this attraction is the modern Waterfall Center, the ideal starting point for a visit to the falls themselves.
