To the south of the city at www. adnet. at This red rock – along with the conglomerate – has been a building material frequently used in Salzburg province. But that would represent another journey in its own right that would cover all of SalzburgerLand.
Delectable Tennengau treats
14 bike regions in Salzburg province are just waiting to be discovered.
Hill cheese and mountain lamb are the two major mainstays behind Tennengau’ s culinary fame. In Adnet, for example, it is the Pötzelsberger cheesery www. biokas. at and in Kuchl the Fürstenhof www. fuerstenhof. co. at, which fill the shopping baskets of their guests with their own products. The Lammertal – Dachstein West region can even chalk up its own cheese sommelier, who accompanies hikers on a Food Tour to Tennengau cheese dairies, happy to share his knowledge about this dairy product. Well known far beyond the Tennengau are also the products of the Guglhof distillery in Hallein. www. guglhof. at Salzburg is a land of breweries. In the Tennengau, Hofbräu Kaltenhausen has been inviting guests to raise their glasses in its own tavern for centuries. Kaltenhausen was founded in 1475, making it Salzburg’ s oldest brewery and the oldest wheat-beer brewery in Austria. www. kaltenhausen. at
Tired, achy muscles are done a world of good at the wellness oasis in Bad Vigaun. In summer, many a hiker exploring the hiking paradise of the Trattbergalm also dares to cool off in the Seewaldsee in St. Koloman at an elevation of 1,074 m above sea level. Idyllic, free swimming areas – that can be reached by bike – can also be found in Bluntautal outside Golling, with no significant climbs along the way.
The Mysticism of Water
Between Scheffau and west of Abtenau lie the Lammeröfen, a gorge visitors can walk through along boardwalks and a bridge, and through which flows a torrent of water. www. lammerklamm. at In the upper section, the rock walls narrow to as little as one meter apart. Alongside the Lammer, the Salzburg Dolomite Road leads through magnificent high-mountain scenery and on to Annaberg and St. Martin.
abtenau
The biggest town in Lammertal is Abtenau. The oldest farmhouse is the Arlerhof, a listed building which serves as the local history museum, provides fascinating glimpses into the region’ s past. Working tools, clothing and an entire home paint a colorful picture of life in earlier times.
golling
Golling’ s main road is flanked by beautifully painted homes. Bluntautal nature sanctuary and the waterfall in Torren that plunges some 80 meters into the depths are the landscape highlights of this community. www. golling. info Above all for painters of the Romantic era, the waterfall located north-west of Golling became a frequent motif – in two tiers, the mighty water thunders over the falls. Yet another natural monument is the Salzachöfen on nearby Pass Lueg. This imposing canyon between the mountains of the Hagen- and Tennengebirge has dug 80 meters deep into the Dachstein limestone. At the“ Cathedral”, an especially imposing point, the rock walls on either side seem to close together completely. Naturally, just as in Flachgau, there are pilgrimage churches in Tennengau: Maria Brunneck stands on the pass summit, St. Nicholas on the Nikolausberg in Golling is likewise a destination for a short hike. In the Tannhauser Farm Museum, the farmer’ s wife leads you through the house of her parents, while at Golling Castle Museum you can take a journey back in time yet again www. museumburggolling. at: Long-extinct animals, dinosaurs, remains of Ice Age animals, fossilized sea creatures and minerals and the depths of the primeval ocean are all on display at Golling Castle Museum, plus you can also learn more about the town of Golling and its surroundings on a journey of cultural-history.
adnet
A small, very special museum is the one in Adnet dedicated exclusively to Adnet marble which is found here, and a nature path leads you through the marble quarries. More about the marble museum and the Adnet Marble Path can be found
