Drama Department While many would class 2020 as a year to forget , it has also offered some highlights for the drama department . In a year with no major production possible , we entered three teams in the annual Sheilah Winn Shakespeare festival and this paid off richly , with our Year 13 team of Oliver Price-Walker , Luis Sharp , Marguerite Sandleback and Jaime Luisi taking out the regional student-directed competition . These four seniors also directed 15 juniors in their melodrama version of Hamlet in the regionals . Entries with further accolades being won by Oliver and Luis for student direction and use of music respectively . We also applauded Year 11 student Lola Kidd for her selection with Oliver for the annual national Shakespeare workshop in Dunedin in October . The Bard just kept on giving this year , with seniors Pia McPhail and Luis Sharp also being accepted into the midyear . Despite the trials of lockdown , our students returned ready to perform their delayed assessments and it is noteworthy that none of their drama credits to be , including the much anticipated ShowQuest competition . Term four of this year offered a fresh start in some respects , in that auditions for next year ’ s school musical , Oliver , took place . The auditorium has the exterior phase one completed , with the interior refurbishment to begin following the school musical . Our juniors will look to defend their title as the regional theatresports champions in this year ’ s round of Improv Battles , held in late November . They also ran the Haunted Tent for the annual Blast in the Park , in conjunction with Havelock North Primary School ’ s PTA . A huge thank you as always goes out to Mrs Jade Hanham , who has been a goldmine of resources for the department in a disrupted year . Thanks also to our loyal technical team , who have spent much of this year in limbo , with few events to light .
