with the largest turnout to the 1st XI trials since I have been at this school . There were only four spots up for grabs , which made the trials very competitive . We were really happy to bring in Austen Jones ( Year 9 ), Comarc Turley ( Year 12 ) and Will Tidswell ( Year 13 ) to our forward lines , as well as Owen Reid ( Year 10 ) to the back lines .
We were lucky enough to be coached by Jono Heaphy and Geoff Morrison again this year . The combination of Jono ’ s skills-focused training and strong game strategy , with Geoff ’ s motivation and inspiring hockey skills , led to some great development of our team throughout the year . We played in Division One and although we weren ’ t able to convert any wins in our regular season , the score gap was able to be dramatically decreased throughout the season . I have no doubt that next year the boys will be bringing in a number of wins on the teams continued trajectory .
defence , with a change-up in position strategy . Zak McGrath and Rogan Ross were the unstoppable units with Will Tidswell bringing his quick speed to the Foulsham in goal . He was a brick wall for us at the back . In a game against Napier Boys ’ High School , he was able to save 95 % of shots on goal , well outperforming the other keeper who didn ’ t save any of our shots on goal .
Tournament week is always a highlight and , despite the continued uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 , we were able to take part in a lower North Island boys championship in Hawke ’ s Bay . With a tough loss in ō 10-0 , we regrouped and had a successful rest of the tournament winning most of our competition games to meet Taupō ō 4-0 , with a defensive strategy from Jono .
