Our team ’ s start to the season was not a great one . We didn ’ t play very well and couldn ’ t pass the ball was not a very good one . We played Hastings Boys ’ High School and the score was something like 7-2 . For happy with the result .
Ray taught us a drill called 4 vs 2 where there are 4 attackers and 2 defenders . The attackers play around in a square passing the ball around , trying not to let attempts were terrible but we eventually started to see some improvement . In the mix of these 4 vs 2 ’ s we had shuttles to do . A lot of shuttles ! We hated these up being so good for our game .
against Lindisfarne . This gave the team a big morale boost and we started to think more positively after that . Overall , the season was quite successful . After having started poorly , with little structure and not many hopes of success , we improved continually and ended up coming second in our division . When I look it to our last against Napier Boys ’ High School , it is easy to see that we were a completely different team . All of the drills and efforts we put in at practice helped quite the successful season for us .
I must give credit to our coach Ray and thank him for taking us this year . While he was a hard taskmaster , constantly pushing us brought out some of the best in the team and taught us a lot about ourselves and the game . I am looking forward to playing in the summer league and to next year ’ s season .
