CANOE POLO - SENIOR GIRLS

2020 was another great year for canoe polo at Havelock North High School . Our Senior A Girls team won the New Zealand Secondary Schools national title for a second time , becoming back to back champions . The team was expected to be rebuilding this year , having lost four experienced Year 13 players at the end of 2019 , including two New Zealand Under-21 players .
In March the girls came away with second place at ���� ��������� ���������� ������ ������ ��������� ���� ��� Karamu High School , but the future for NZSS was unclear when COVID-19 hit New Zealand . When it was ���������������������������������������������������� came into nationals with a new mindset , after coaches Kelly Hepburn and Terri Morrison put them to work �������� ���� ����� ������� ������� ����� ����� ���������� dedication and time .
Throughout the weekend the team were undefeated facing Taradale , Sacred Heart , Fielding and Karamu , ������ ���� ����� ��� ���� ������ �������� ������� ����� School once again . They started strong with a 2-1 lead ������������������������������������������������������� both goals . In the second half Meaghan Broad scored a ������������������������������������������������������ consecutive goal not long after . Finishing with Ashlee Greaves scoring a hat-trick , Mckenzie Grove scoring a ���������������������������������������������������� score 6-2 to Havelock with gold medals yet again .
The Havelock North High School Junior A Girls put ���������������������������������������������������� ������������������������������������������������������ had earlier lost to 3-4 . The girls played through three rounds of golden goal as the score was four all after full time . Both teams were putting up strong defenses until Jemma Renwick scored the winning goal , ��������� ���� ������� ������ �� ����� ��� ���� ����� �������� Napier Girls ’ High School . Unfortunately the Napier team came away with the 7-3 win . The Havelock Junior Girls can hold their heads high for a weekend well fought and come away with well earned Silver medals .
