This year the SADD Committee has focused on spreading our core values of safety and awareness on the road . Driving is an exciting part of being a teenager and at Havelock North High School many of our students drive to school every day . We are here to remind students of the responsibility they carry when driving . Since the SADD organisations recently rebranding to incorporate all aspects of danger on the roads , it is important that we as a committee are able to share all of our values to the school and raise awareness of all of the different hazards that young people can face on the road today .
To get a better idea of what we should do to promote safe driving , a few members of the SADD Committee attended a SADD workshop , with many students from other schools around Hawke ’ s Bay . At this workshop we discussed the main issues with dangerous driving around New Zealand and ways to overcome these issues . One thing we focused on was how to promote these values while keeping the students ’ interest . Keeping this in mind , we decided to plan an event in collaboration with the local police at our school , where students could participate in activities such as obstacle courses with vision impairment goggles to simulate the experience of drunk driving . Unfortunately , this event had to be postponed due to
values of the SADD Committee through a word collage on windows throughout the 300 Block giving handy pieces of road safety advice , which students could read during the day while walking to their classes . This students can be better drivers and better citizens in our community .
Despite a very unsettled year , the SADD Committee has been happy to be involved in helping our students become safer and more aware . We hope everyone enjoys the rest of the year , and drives safe this summer .
