TECHNOLOGY - SCHOLARSHIPS
In late 2019 , two Technology Scholarship candidates submitted their 60 page reports . Both had worked exceptionally hard developing ideas , talking to stakeholders and testing materials and equipment . Both students worked long , late hours to ensure their designs met the needs of their clients and subsequently both were awarded Scholarships in term one this year .
Terri Morrison , Year 13 2019 , worked with her client Charlene Whyte , an addiction and mental Health support worker at Whatever It Takes in Napier . WIT runs an outreach centre in Napier for people
struggling with addictions , mental health issues and problems with living conditions , including the homeless population around Hawke ’ s Bay . Terri ’ s year long project focused on designing a garment that could keep someone warm and dry when sleeping rough . She wanted to make a difference and provide a sense of belonging and selfworth to those less fortunate who have to brave the elements and also the harsh social conditions they lived amongst . Using merino wool for its biodegradable and warmth properties and waterproof polyester textile , Terri designed and made a hooded pullover . The design included long sleeves ����� ���������� �������� a lined hood with drawstring and a large storage pocket . The merino lining had a hemline drawstring with toggle to keep warmth in and tuck up to any length wanted . It is easily transported and can be folded up and put into a backpack . Made with durable fabrics that ���� ��� ���� �������� ���� the environment they will be used in .
