THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH HILLARY AWARD

This year , another 65 students started the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award . Despite the disruption and students have managed to achieve their bronze awards . This is a wonderful effort and shows a real commitment made by these students to reach their potential . As always , students have participated in a wide range of activities to meet the requirements of each section . Amongst many other things participants have offered community service to neighbouring schools , coached junior teams , helped at libraries and assisted the elderly . We are very proud of the contribution these young people have made to our community .
At the higher levels of the award , a solid group of 15 silver students were , unfortunately , unable to complete the Tongariro Northern Circuit expedition in April for obvious reasons . Instead , they undertook a three-day expedition in the Whirinaki Forest Park .
We were particularly proud of both Sophie Walker and Hamish Gilbert who completed their gold awards this year . Both students have worked incredibly hard over four years to achieve this prestigious award , offering countless hours of community service and challenging themselves in numerous expeditions and activities . They will be formally that will be held throughout New Zealand next year . We also wish Ruby Hughan , Hannah Townsend , Charlotte Broadhurst , Marguerite Sandleback , Elliot Burton , Will Tidswell , Steven Zheng and Amy Culham the best as they
