The Senior Girls played in Division 2 of the basketball Hawke ’ s Bay Secondary School League this year . We were eager to succeed this season after missing out on the semi-final last season due to goal difference . Despite not having a coach , the team organised their own weekly training and improved significantly throughout the season . The majority of our players were playing in their first or second season . I was very proud to captain this team . The hard work the girls put in was obvious . After a close victory mid-season against Iona College ( 24-21 ), who were far lower than us on the table , we were not in good spirits . Some stern reflection took place at training the following week . The team learned from their criticism and doubled Napier Girls ’ High School Senior B ’ s score the following week ( 32-15 ) after we had previously only beaten them by six points ( 19-13 ). Sadly , we were very short on players in the final due to injuries and sickness . Our undefeated season ended when we took a 21-29 defeat to Flaxmere College in the final to place second overall . We were also disappointed to take a one-point loss against Tawa College during the Tawa Exchange . attended our games weekly . We would also like to thank Sienna Wall , Sofia Lumbreras and Arianna Broad who contributed to our score bench and filled in when sickness struck the team .
Thank you to all fellow students and families who came to PGA to support us in the final and throughout the season . Sophia and Teina are the only students in the team who are not in Year 13 . Therefore , I hope to see more girls take up basketball so the team can play next year and the sport can continue to grow in Hawke ’ s Bay .
Emily Herd , Captain
Alice Hinton , Rakairoa Joyce and I were significant in defence and on the score sheet throughout the season . New players Aimee Kay and Aysha Vossen-Chong made considerable contributions to the team and were our most improved players . Rebecca Davis , Sophia Coram- O ’ Kane and Agyeiwaa Tabi-Amponsah were consistent in defence whilst Myla Groombridge and Hannah Estcourt became confident on the attack . We were grateful for the experience Teina Tuhi brought to the team despite only being able to attend a couple of games . The team is thankful to Mr Fox and Miss Sparling-Fenton who
