Throughout the year we organised various sports events at lunchtime . A big success to start off the year was a relay against our top runner Karsen Vesty . This proved to be a close race with only one team able to beat Karsen over 400 metres . We also held a gumboot throw that saw gumboots flying a variety of distances and directions . As HNHS is such a large school , there are sports teams playing almost every day of the week . In order to increase awareness of these games , Forum came up with the idea of a sporting calendar . We have created a guide for this that we hope can be used by sports committees in the future and ultimately see more spectators supporting our school and sports competitions .
Over the past few years , our current Year 13 ’ s have been playing off in a Premier Lunchtime Football League . To signify the final ever game of Zongs vs Greenstreet we organised a pitch with chairs around it for spectators . We also had music and advertised it throughout the week . This got people outside in the fresh air and sunshine while being entertained . This was a huge success and many people including teachers came to watch . A large part of our job in the Sports Committee is to recognise students who excel in their particular sports . We congratulate our fellow students at different blues assemblies and at the end-of-year sports dinner . This year , in particular , we saw a significant rise in the number of people getting Gold Sports awards for winning and competing in high-level sports in New Zealand and even internationally . This was very humbling to see that many people are succeeding and receiving recognition for all their hard work and effort .
