Awards for Outstanding Citizenship
Daniel Cunningham : Staff Prize : “ Daniel is awarded the Staff Prize for his service to Havelock North High School over many years . He has participated willingly , and passionately , in nearly all Miro House events for five years . As leader of his house he has shown great initiative , tenacity , drive and stamina . His mentoring of younger students has been particularly admirable . Daniel has mana because he has always lead by example .” Renee Thompson : Whittaker Prize : “ Renee ’ s contribution to the cultural life of the school has been well documented and includes dance , school productions , Havestock , Talent Quest , Cultural Committee leadership , house kapa haka , choirs , drama and directing . She has achieved this by being caring , evidenced by her mentoring of junior students , committed and hardworking . Renee is mature , well-organised , inclusive and an excellent citizen of Havelock North High School .” Bayedan Hales : John Kneebone Memorial Lions Award : “ Bayedan has demonstrated his citizenship by being a member of the Cultural Committee , a leader of the Technical Crew , by his contribution to the Environmental Committee and his coaching of junior canoe polo . In particular , he has shown excellent leadership in his teaching and mentoring of younger members of the technical team . Bayedan ’ s expertise and willingness to go above and beyond what was asked of him has been greatly appreciated by the school .” Malena Shakespeare : Child on a Swing Award : “ Malena has made a significant contribution to our school culture , over a number of years , through her noteworthy participation in stage band , concert band , chamber music and as captain of her football team . Malena , in her own quiet way , has shown she is a valued citizen of Havelock North High School through her hard work and humility .”

Eddie O ’ Reilly : King Award : “ Eddie is an outstanding leader in our school . He is unfailingly enthusiastic , supportive of others and prepared to take on extra responsibility . Those that identified him as a potential house leader when he was a junior have not been disappointed . He knows that a good leader does the hard work behind the scenes as well as leading from the front . Eddie is neither overbearing or arrogant but is someone that can be relied on to get things done with good humour and a smile . Eddie is a worthy recipient of our supreme leadership award and we thank him for his service to our school .” Lola Kidd : Rei Hamon Cup : “ Lola has made a notable contribution to Havelock North High School over a significant number of years . As leader of Kauri House she has demonstrated effective organisational and communication skills , a genuine desire to ensure all students are included and a willingness to try new things . She is described as an ‘ awesome force to be reckoned with ’ due to her extensive involvement in many school events including the Cultural Committee , Pike Ake Leadership Group , Forum , Student Volunteer Army , Taiohu Tu and netball . Lola is a worthy recipient of our supreme leadership award and we thank her for her service to our school .” Rakairoa Joyce : Foundation Award for Head Girl : “ Rakairoa has been a wonderful Head Girl and ambassador for Havelock North High School this year . Her unfailingly polite and considerate demeanour and her ability to relate to a wide range of people has been widely appreciated by the school community . As co-leader of the Forum group , she spearheaded the very successful Walk to Ukraine initiative and has been instrumental in organising many other events throughout the year . Rakairoa could be relied upon to represent herself and the school admirably whatever the occasion . We have no doubt that the Head Girl position is only the first of many leadership opportunities that lie ahead of her and thank her for the contribution she has made as Head Girl 2022 .” Thomas Hooper : Foundation Award for Head Boy : “ Thomas has been a reliable , charismatic and conscientious Head Boy . Throughout his five years at our school , he has modelled the work habits of a successful student and developed his capacity as a young and emerging leader . Thomas is prepared to work hard and put in the time and energy required to get the job done . He is held in high regard by the staff and students of Havelock North High School and has the ability to relate to a wide range of people . Thomas ’ unfailingly positive , cheerful disposition has been a welcome addition to the school as has his work in coordinating several initiatives throughout the year .
