A full season of football in 2021 made a welcome change to the shortened season experienced last year and the girls ’ 1st XI football team had a successful year . Beginning the season we had quite a number of new players which is always exciting but did pose a ‘ settling in ’ period for the first few games . It seemed as though the team all gelled very quickly , soon picking up the pace to go on to do well game after game which put us in a good position for the Division 1 standings . Our semi-final game was a highlight of the season which was against Iona . It was a battle of 3v4 and we came out on top 2-0 , moving us through to the final against Napier Girls ’ High School . A second highlight was our Tawa exchange match . We came out winning 9-0 which showed how much we ’ ve been able to come together over the season and work very efficiently . The final was played against Napier Girls ’ High School at the end of Term 3 and , although we lost the final , the team showed improvement against one of the top teams in New Zealand and should feel proud of their achievements this year .
We , unfortunately , say goodbye to a number of Year 13s at the end of this season : Keira Laurie ( captain ), Natalya Nicholson , Zara Tissies , Ella Sherratt , Rosemary Yorke and Meg Russell . This group have been fun to work with and the team will miss them . Roll on season 2022 !
