Gillette Cup success continued through to the 2021 season . The 1st XI cricket team defended a small total against St John ’ s 1st XI for the second year straight to progress through to the semi-final of the Gillette Cup . The home semi-final was a hard fought battle where even Logan Ryniker-Doull ’ s quickfire 100 was not enough to overcome a large first innings total set by Lindisfarne College . Within the 2A grade , the side regularly set high totals over 150 batting first , with Tom Gallagher and Ryan Miller each picking up three 50 ’ s , and Cole Grant-Smith also scoring a half century . Out in the field , our bowlers challenged the opposition batsmen , with Cooper Dunkerley being the pick of the bunch , accumulating 12 wickets . The team were competitive in the majority of all Term 1 matches within the division and were very unlucky not to be rewarded with wins as a result of our efforts more often than not . The two competition wins for the team came against Marewa Cricket Club , winning by 97 and 49 runs in respective matches . However , with the upcoming talent of junior cricketers evident by their performances in 1st XI fixtures , there are promising signs for 1st XI Cricket at HNHS for the upcoming season and years to come . Team training has already returned with coach Geoff Morrison set on solidifying the sides position in the 2A division of the Hawke ’ s Bay competition , which returns in week two of Term 4 . On behalf of the 1st XI cricket boys , we would like to thank Geoff for his commitment , hard work and time he has dedicated towards making our team competitive against other regional 1st XI ’ s with the limited resources he has available to him . We also appreciated his ability to introduce talented juniors into the 1st XI training squad to be available for selection .
