The International Committee this year has faced challenges with the Covid-19 pandemic , with international students not arriving to our school . As a result , plans for many of our annual events and activities , such as the International Food Festival were abandoned . However , we decided as a committee to focus on the students at our school and celebrate the diverse cultures and ethnicities that we are privileged to have here at Havelock North High School . One of our missions as a committee was to redecorate and update the flags that we have hanging in our school ’ s gymnasium , which displays the nations that are represented by the students at our school . We invited the students to tell us which of their country ’ s flags were not already in the gymnasium and had the opportunity to learn more about the diverse range of cultures we have at Havelock North High School . We also celebrated international language week , when we put up posters around the school , each representing a different language with everyday phrases that students could learn from .
The International Committee hopes that the future students of Havelock North High School welcome students of all nationalities . We should take pride in our diversity and strengths . When international students do return to HNHS , we know that you will look after them well and show them what a great place we have here at our school .
