“ The best laid schemes o ’ mice and men ” often go awry , wrote Robbie Burns , Robbie Cargill ’ s great grandfather ( unconfirmed ), and both creatures are in limbo even as your faithful scribe pens these notes .
The boss ’ sabbatical in Term 3 was closer to its original definition than he may have intended , and the respite his lovely Lynne may have expected , as Greg visited various schools , did not come to pass either . Back at work , No 2 was left carrying the baby or at least making sure it stayed at home , and logged on for conferences on schoology , amongst millions of other emails and meetings he and the SMT had to deal with . They also had the stress of Jo putting down her needles and taking up an office , when Jacinda let her come to school .
Simon ’ s best laid plans got a bit nutty when he gave a student with a certain allergy a muesli bar . Kaine found himself coaching the Hawks ’ basketball team , but winning lots of games . A missing coffee plunger almost destroyed a beautiful bromance , someone ’ s puppy appeared on schoology and at school ( oops ) regularly , and an optimistic old lady thought she could launch a rap career . Despite the efforts of a gallant Scotsman ( yes , a Scottish person actually accomplished something in the sporting field ), the staff lost the Lockdown Challenge to the students . Hard to believe that a bunch of middle aged and
4 elderly educators aren ’ t fitter than a group of 17 and 18 year olds .
Careful planning and Mr Kitchin are never synonymous , yet house competitions ensued without too much outrage from red or orange as they fought yet another tense battle for the patu . One house leader ’ s enthusiasm spilled over into a well executed and sporting haka for the winners of kapa haka .
Some plans actually came off , like Jade in P . E . becoming a Champion , Millar and Nowell-Usticke becoming house tutors ( watch this space for the regret ) and Thomas , Drabble and Reiter sticking one toe in the puddle of retirement by becoming part time , whilst Mclean dove in completely . The poor Year 13s actually had a ball this year .
Some plans might come off like the SNU rebuild and the 300 block renovations .
Overall , many members of the staff ought to be congratulated - for overcoming covid ’ s many complications , a number of bereavements , and some severe illnesses .
