TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIPS
FABRICS
During the summer holidays Angela Leijen was
talking to her sister in law , Dr Helen Saywell who is a general practitioner working in the Taradale Medical Centre . Helen brought to her attention multiple problems that come with wearing scrubs on a daily basis . Angela has used this issue as the context for her Technology Scholarship in 2021 .
Over the course of the year Angela interviewed a variety of local stakeholders and modelled her ideas . She had multiple specifications to deal with including considerations around the risk of contamination , abrasion , breathability , storage and the consideration of sustainable design principles .
The resulting outcome is an innovative set of scrubs manufactured from predominantly natural fibres . Angela ’ s design had to be tested in a simulated medical environment due to Covid restrictions and her scrubs were given the green light by a range of medical professionals . Good luck to Angela for Scholarship results that come out in February .
DVC
DVC Scholarship is an accumulation of three term ’ s work and two standards . It requires students to choose a starting point that appeals to them and then develop lateral thinking strategies that will lead to initial ideas of what they intend to design . An important part of the project is the narrative that underpins the design story . Students are encouraged to think diversely , filtering out ideas that will ultimately lead to a final design .
