CAREERS - GATEWAY PROGRAMME

The Gateway programme this year started with great enthusiasm . All of our students were keen to sample their chosen industry and gain some valuable work experience . Fortunately , our students were able to start their placements , as planned , at the beginning of Term 2 . However , 2021 saw a return of Covid lockdown and some students could not complete their work placements in Term 3 as employers had to adjust their work policies to align with Level 2 guidelines . Our students had to manage this disappointment and disruption by showing understanding and resilience . Those that could continue needed to be mindful and be flexible to a new way of working and interacting in the team setting . Each and every student rose to the challenges this placed on them and those who could not return to work used the time back in school
to extend their learning by completing additional unit standards . The Covid lockdown did not stand in the way of opportunities being opened . Gateway 2021 has seen a record number of apprenticeships and cadetships being offered , employment and further education . The careers team are very proud of our students ’ achievements and wish them well for their future endeavours . Our students continue to be supported by generous local businesses in the wider Hawke ’ s Bay community , providing valuable work experience opportunities , mentoring and guidance so students can make informed decisions about those next career steps . We are very grateful to live in such a generous community .
