Te Ahumairangi was a combination kapa haka of Iona College and Havelock North High School . The number of girls that joined kapa haka from Iona were few and so they asked Havelock North High School to combine as one group .
May 14th was the day of the Ngāti Kahungunu Kapa Haka Secondary Schools Regional Competition . After hours upon hours of practising we performed with courage and power on the day , singing waiata like Te Tira Amorangi , Whakaeke Haaro o te Kaahu , Mooteatea Tenei te Whakapapa , Waiataaringa Tuku iho , Poi Te Ara Tika and Whakawatea Te Ahumairangi .
Although we didn ’ t win , we all became a family in the end and we all had fun along the way through performing with new people and old friends . Performing in front of our schools and at Matariki was also a highlight of our performances and Te Ahumairangi journey .
