This course provides the underpinning knowledge for healthcare support workers and can provide an entry route to degrees in nursing , midwifery , and allied health professions .
The course includes mandatory assessed placements within a healthcare setting , which may be within hospital wards and care homes , and will require you to work various shift patterns ( not night shift ).
Entry Requirements
One of the following :
PLUS
Two Highers at Grade C or above
Advanced Certificate : Health and Social Care ( Access to Nursing and Care HNCs ) plus external
Care Higher pass
Access to Nursing SWAP - completion of course , including Anatomy and Physiology
Other SCQF Level 6 qualifications and experience of working in a health or social care setting will be considered on an individual basis
National 5 Maths at Grade C or above is desirable for those who wish to progress to certain degree programmes
You are required to have a preplacement health check
There may be a charge for your health check and additional uniform
You will also require a PVG check through Disclosure Scotland in order to go out on the placement ( s ) as part of this course

HNC : Social Services ( social care ) is designed to meet the registration requirements to work in social care settings and is aimed at those who have some experience in working in care in either a paid or voluntary capacity . This is a 12 credit award with most of the units applied to work experience and placements .
Entry Requirements One of the following :
PLUS
Two Highers at Grade C or above
Foundation Apprenticeship : Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 6 plus Higher English at Grade A or B
Foundation Apprenticeship : Social Services : Children and Young People SCQF Level 6 plus Higher English at Grade A or B
A qualification at SCQF Level 6 in a related subject such as Social / Health Care , Humanities , or Social Sciences
Evidence that you can meet the academic requirements of SCQF Level 7 with the submission of a written piece at information session if you do not meet any of the above and are looking for a change of career
Some placements have a minimum age requirement of 18 years
If you do not hold the formal qualifications required , we may consider paid or voluntary experience in a formal care setting .
Someone from the College will be in touch to discuss your experience , and whether it is suitable for you to gain entry to the course .
