This course will provide you with a rich understanding of working with children and young people , and will help you to integrate knowledge and theory into practice , including the importance of the National Care Standards and Scottish Social Services Council ( SSSC ) Codes of Practice .
Entry Requirements
You should be 17 years of age or over when applying for the course and should have experience of working with children . You should also possess one of the following :
PLUS
Two Highers at Grade C or above , including English at A or B
Foundation Apprenticeship : Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 6 plus Higher English at Grade A or B
Foundation Apprenticeship : Social Services : Children and Young People SCQF Level 6 plus Higher English at Grade A or B
National Certificate : Early Education and Childcare group award
SVQ : Social Services ( Children and Young People ) SCQF Level 6
Other SCQF Level 6 qualifications and experience of working in childcare will be considered on an individual basis
If you are considering progression to Higher Education teacher training courses , you should note that you are likely to require two additional Highers , including English at Grade A or B , and National 5 Maths at Grade C or above to be considered by most HE institutions
You will also require a PVG check through Disclosure Scotland in order to go out on the placement ( s ) as part of this course

This qualification is suitable for learners who hold a Practitioner qualification as specified by the Scottish Social Services Council ( SSSC ) such as HNC Childhood Practice or SVQ Social Services : Children & Young People at SCQF Level 7 and have achieved 120 SCQF credits .

This qualification is suitable for learners who hold a practitioner qualification as specified by the Scottish Social Services Council ( SSSC ). In addition , learners should be working in , or have access to a placement in the Childhood Practice sector and have acquired 120 credits points at SCQF level 7 , for example HNC : Childhood Practice prior to undertaking the award .
You must be 18 years of age at start of study and have significant work experience in an early learning and childcare setting at Practitioner Level
An Enhanced Disclosure Scotland application is required . This will be carried out with the college if a place is offered
This course is suitable for you if you already hold an HNC in Childhood Practice or other Childcare based HNC qualifications with Graded Unit at grade A or B

Delivered in partnership with Queen Margaret University , this degree programme is designed to provide a rigorous , academic area of study , enabling you to develop the necessary skills and understanding to register as a Lead Practitioner or Manager of Childcare Settings with the Scottish Social Services Council .
Entry Requirements
You must hold an HND in Childhood Practice , or other Childcare based HND qualifications with Graded Unit at grade A or B
As this is a practice-based qualification , you must be currently employed in an Early Learning and Childcare setting , with a minimum of 2 years ’ experience prior to undertaking studies
You will also require a signed statement of support from your employer
