“I’ll have the wobbly
bottom please”

And I am so glad that I
did. The Wobbly Bottom
Goat’s Cheese and Fig Tart
was an indulgent delight.
Smooth, creamy, locally
produced goats cheese
from Wobbly Bottom
Farm and freshly baked
figs was definitely the
correct choice of lunch for
me at this traditional, yet glamorous, country pub.
I say glamorous because The Royal Oak has
a state-of-the-art teepee in their garden. It’s
secluded from the main pub garden and has
been very tastefully designed in a landscaped
enclosure. We peeped inside (I’ve always
been nosy) and it was warm and cosy, with
leather sofas and faux fur pouffes, just right
for a special occasion with family or friends.
Available to hire from just £100 we’ve been
desperately trying to find an excuse to
organise a party ever since.
The main pub garden is very well maintained
and even has a bee hive (tucked well away), a
herb garden and various plants and bushes,
the produce of which make their way onto
the menu.
The centrally located bar is surrounded by
restaurant tables, all of which were being
used on this Friday lunchtime. To guarantee
a table booking
is probably a
necessity. Watching
the other diners
we realised that
this pub appeals
to all; young
couples, big
families,
retired
friends and
well behaved
children in
highchairs.

The atmosphere was very
enjoyable.
Choosing from the menu
was a struggle, with so
many dishes sounding
tempting. It pleases me no
end to see locally sourced
produce being used. For
dessert I chose the orange
meringue tartlet with
blackcurrant ripple ice
cream. The blackcurrants
had been picked from the pub’s garden and used
to make the ice cream; compliments to the chef
I say.
It’s the little touches of geraniums on the garden
tables and fresh flowers on the tables inside that
make the pub so homely. The waiting staff were
incredibly friendly, knowledgeable of the menu
and clean and smart, which is always a good
thing.
The prices reflect the quality of the ingredients,
and the love and care being put into producing
such culinary delights.
Children, dogs and muddy boots are all
welcome. It’s a pub for everyone, it really is.
There is a spacious car
park and it’s only a
five minute drive from
Marlow. We highly
recommend you all
pay a visit.
