Migraines and Me
I was eleven when I got my first migraine . This is my story about migraines and me .
The month before last I told you about a new diet I had started involving no sugar , no dairy , no flour , limited fruit , veg and several other things ! It ’ s very similar to the candida diet , if you know what that is ?
I learnt three years ago that your stomach and your head are strongly connected , meaning that often when you have a headache it ’ s because of something you ’ ve eaten , or vice versa ; it could be stress in your mind causing a bad stomach .
I decided that my health is more important than my cravings and I should do something about it . Thankfully my nutritionist is just a phone call away so I ’ ve had lots of help and support . I ’ ve felt so much better these last two months than I have in a long time ! Almost no headaches and not one bad stomach in over 10 weeks !
Believe me when I tell you that following this diet has been HARD . Almost no eating out , no takeaways , every meal made from scratch and everything I ’ ve eaten I ’ ve had to double check against my list ( and the ingredients list if in a packet or jar ) to make sure no meal or snack contained any of the “ avoid ” items .
Some people may think I ’ m being dramatic , or exaggerating , or going over the top , but I believe that if you can ’ t take care of your own health , then who can ?!
I have also been taking some supplements such as grapefruit seed extract as an anti-bacterial to help with my stomach-aches . This diet hasn ’ t been cheap , but the end result is a much healthier lifestyle than the one I started with .
If you follow this diet , and would like to eat out , I can highly recommend The Last Viceroy curry house in Bourne End as they cooked a no sugar , no dairy and no gluten curry for my birthday celebrations with my family for the same cost as usual and it was amazing to eat !
