The Wish
by D.S.Affleck
Review by Emily Clarke (age 14)
The Wish follows
the story of Jamie
Lomax as he
attempts to help
5 people in the
space of only 30
days in order to
earn a wish from a
mystical orb and
avoid losing his
soul to an ancient
warrior from an
ancient
world.
Jamie also deals
with his nemesis
Spencer,
who
seems to have made it his mission to take
Jamie down. Despite the fact that Spencer is
already popular and does well in school, and
tries to maintain a normal life, he is trying to
help a friend in order to get one step closer to
a wish whilst playing football.
I particularly liked the way this book was
unpredictable, unlike many of the books
aimed at young adults at the moment. The plot
was original and unique and was very different
to the books I normally read. I also liked the
way the different characters were presented
as it kept the plot interesting without making
it confusing. The book creates interest by
constantly introducing new plot twists that are
difficult to be predicted or guessed and help
